Past winners of President’s Cup endurance ride   Print  E-mail 
The coveted endurance cup was consistently claimed by the Shaikh Mansour’s Al Wathba Stables during the last three years. Abdul Rahim Hilal Al Juneibi retained the stable’s hold on the coveted trophy astride South American bred Super in a record seven hours and 20 minutes last season.   Shareef Abdulla Al Bloushi won the titles twice in succession for the Al Wathba Stables.

Since 2000,  when this race was started, the HH The President’s Cup has become the showpiece ride of the UAE’s domestic season. Being held over the championship distance of 160-kms, this is one of the toughest rides on the world circuit,” said Al Sayed. This race features the notorious Tora Bora, a switchback of rolling sand dunes that challenges both the visiting as well as local riders.

Colonel Hussain Mohammed Hussain, secretary general of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, said a team of foreign officials and veterinarians approved by the FEI have been flown to conduct the ride. “Nominated to work along them are some of the experienced UAE based staffers including the FEI veterinary Dr Jim Bryant and Dr Martha Misheff,” said Col.Hussain.

The President’s Cup will be covered on TV coverage both, by Abu Dhabi and Dubai Sports Channels. Additionally the live online by a webcast available on www.eiev.org.

The event is sponsored by Omega as the Crown Jewel sponsor and Emirates Call as the Gold sponsor, and supported by United Design, Paris Gallery, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Mercedes Benz, Bovis and Max Group. Nayla Hayek of Omega said it was the first time they have sponsored an endurance race in Abu Dhabi and looked forward to be a regular partner.  Mohammed Barakat of Emirates Call expressed their total and continued support for the event.
