Several horses will carry the colours of UAE owners at the October 30 meeting. Although Crimson Palace from Godolphin had been a candidate for the Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Lone Star Park before being withdrawn and sent to stud. However, top horses like Musical Chimes, Mustanfar and Balletto will ensure a Dubai presence at the $14 million (approx Dhs 51.38 million) event.
Musical Chimes, who is owned by His Highness Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is likely to contest the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Mustanfar will carry the blue and white silks of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry, in the Group 3 Breeders’ Cup Turf over a mile and half.
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, will be represented by the UAE-bred Balletto in the Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Musical Chimes was bred at the Kentucky-based Gainsborough Stud Farm which is owned by Shaikh Maktoum.
The four-year-old In Excess filly has won two of her last three starts including her most recent outing, the Grade 2 Oak Tree Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.
Mustanfar, bred at Shaikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Farm, has not been out of the frame in his six starts. He has won two of four and placed second twice.
The Unbridled colt is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, a former champion trainer in the UAE. A winner of the Lexington Stakes at Belmont in summer, Mustanfar won the Sycamore Breeders Cup Stakes at Keenland last out.
