It was a busy morning
signing autographs for Irish 12-time champion jockey Michael Kinane.
"I
have a couple of good rides but I am here more to be part of this fantastic
atmosphere," said Kinane during the Breakfast with the Stars at the Nad Al Sheba
yesterday.Kinane picked Clive
Brittain's Warrsan as his best chance of a win on Saturday's big race
day.
"He looks good and the mile and a half distance will be to his
liking," said Kinane. "He has been impressive in his workout here and let us
wait and see.
"Jack Sullivan in the UAE Derby is also another good
runner," Kinane added.
Kinane also rides D'Anjou in the Godolphin Mile
and Nayyir in the Dubai Duty Free.
When asked to pick his favourite for
the World Cup, Kinane felt it would be between the two American runners
Pleasantly Perfect and Medaglia d'Oro.
"However, you never know in
racing," he added.
Kinane could also have a slice of success on the big
day if he manages to bag his first win here on Dubai World Cup day.
The
ace pilot is best remembered by Dubai racing fans for an epic battle with Gary
Stevens in the 1998 Dubai World Cup.
Stevens was on the Bob
Baffert-trained Silver Charm, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness
Stakes with Kinane on board the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Swain, a winner of the
King George VIth and Queen Elizabeth Cup.
Kinane came from behind to
challenge Silver Charm and the pair fought stride for stride over the final
furlong with Stevens just holding out for a short-head victory. |
