Classy field for third round of Triple Crown   Print  E-mail 
Today's feature event, the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation sponsored-Round III of the His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Triple Crown has attracted a classy field in an exciting night's racing.

Paddy Rudkin's Al Tareek (winner of the first round), Mazin Al Kurdi's Ryan Giggs (winner of Round II) and stable compaion Seniorita and Mijdadd, the son of Alanudd are the leading contenders.

After disappointing on dirt in the second round Al Tareek has been switched back to turf, a surface he is clearing more suited to.

Ted Durcan has opted to ride Seniorita, who finished second to Ryan Giggs on her UAE debut. He will also appreciate the turf having twice won on the surfance when raced in France.

However, Seniorita appeals most in this Group 3 race over 2200 metres which is the 6th running of the Triple Crown.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation Secretary General Hussein Mohammed Hussein said the Federation was sponsoring the Dh250,000 race. "With the first two rounds producing exciting results we hope the third round will also be a top quality event," Hussein said.

"In keeping with the growing popularity of races here in the capital we will also be giving away six TVs, 4 VCRs, 6 mobiles and three return tickets to Khartoum in a free raffle for the spectators," Hussein added.

Michael Prosser, Clerk of the Course at Newmarket Racecourses, who are sponsoring two races here today said," The facilities here are very impressive and so is the quality of racing."
